The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is one of only a small handful of such centers in the U.S. providing nationally-recognized care to patients suffering from IBD and other related disorders, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Walter A. Koltun, M.D., FACS, FASCRS, chief, division of colon and rectal surgery, and director of the IBD Center, says, “This past spring, since the doors to the new IBD Center opened, physicians specializing in IBD treatment work collaboratively to bring the full spectrum of IBD care under one roof. Penn State Hershey Medical Group has made significant inroads establishing a strong clinical presence in State College, Pennsylvania, now offering a wide-range of primary care, specialty, and diagnostic services at five outpatient locations.
The Medical Group is part of the new University Park Regional Campus of Penn State College of Medicine, with a long-term goal of providing more diverse, multi-disciplinary medical and surgical practices that will also fulfill an important teaching role for medical students. To this end, Joel Haight, M.D., who joined the University Park Regional Campus in 2011, has established a gastroenterology and hepatology practice at Penn State Hershey Medical Group—Colonnade, and has been instrumental in developing and implementing an outpatient endoscopy center adjacent to that Medical Group.
